Plant your own forest
HOW WE ENCOURAGE PEOPLE IN FLANDERS TO PLANT THEIR OWN FOREST TOGETHER WITH THE NATURE & FOREST AGENCY
Zuhal Demir, Flemish Minister of the Environment wants to see an expansion of 4,000 hectares of forest by 2024. To reach this target, we started a large-scale communication campaign with the Nature & Forest Agency: “Plant your own forest and give it a name.” The campaign began with three true-life stories featuring the following people: twin sisters Halise and Emeline Vandenbosch, the Sint-Martinus Scout troop and the Schoenen Torfs shoe store, each of whom planted their own forest. They then each explained why they were taking part in the campaign in their own 30 second radio commercials, as well as what they wanted to call their forests. The result was three authentic yet entertaining radio commercials.
Anyone can join the campaign at www.plantjeeigenbos.be, simply by picking a name for a forest and specifying whether it should be planted on their own land or as part of a planting campaign. For each person who wants to plant their own forest, a personal key visual is generated with the forest’s name and a photo of the participants This can then create awareness of the campaign through sharing it on social media. Each forest planted during the planting campaign will have a sign at the entrance with the names of all participating forests.
